See the video

Looking at this now, I cringe. My video editing experience was (and really still is) pretty limited when I created this “news segment” for a class. Despite lengthy experience with Camtasia, making a video from start to finish like this was a very new venture for me. I asked friends (who own a mixed use gym) to let me film them grappling and used that footage to create the video. I was really unsure of my skills and kept to a single shot style. I should have meddled in that timeline and just went for big: titles, still images, etc. I was (and still am) always worried about copyright infringement, but I think it would have been okay for me to throw in a few photo from Google to break things up, especially since this was for a class project. That and transitions. When I was at Northeastern, I worked with another designer who really walked me through the best use of transitions and that has really changed the way my videos look.

So what would I change now?

  • Add captions. Duh.
  • Transitions to help smooth things out a bit
  • Still images to break it up and give some reference points
  • Titles
  • More action shots, rather than a long single shot
  • Some background music (just a little! not too much, I promise)

Things I am going to work on: getting more video experience. I really like the process of editing and I don’t want to shy away from it.
