Let’s build a course!

One of the most important steps in course design is just figuring out what the course should actually be about. I developed a form to help start the process, so the SME or requestor can get a better idea of what the instructional designer needs to get this thing going. This isn’t a full needs analysis– this is the inquiry form to get us to the needs analysis. I have found a lot of organizations decide they need a training to address a problem, but sometimes that problem isn’t the root cause and a training isn’t the best approach.

Holding a training session (or online course) can be an easy band-aid, but will it fix the issue? A one-sheeter might be a better bet for a new policy, while longer, phased training sessions may be necessary to change cultural norms within an organization. So, let’s build a course! (or not!)
